Title: Website transfer
Post by: Drake Harrison on July 25, 2014, 06:06:13 PM
I have a simple question about website transfer. One of my friends has an online store website powered by Magento community. However, he intends to create a new online store with a complete new look with a new domain name.

Is that possible? If it is, what are the steps involved in this process?

The steps involved in website transfer include the following:

* Take the backup of your website
* Register for a new web hosting account with the new web hosting company
* You can either carry forward the same domain name or register for a new one
* Upload the website on the new hosting server.

The time required for this process depends on the data you have on the website.

You will also have to configure the domain name (https://www.milesweb.com/domains.php) ownership during the website transfer process. The following steps are required for that:

Transfer Domain Registrars – In this step, you are switching the domain registration providers. The original settings of the domain name will remain intact. However, the options like billing and support will change to the new domain registrar.

Switching Domain Name Servers – In this step, you will be retaining the existing domain registration provider, but you'll be switching the DNS for the domain name to point to the new web hosting provider (https://www.milesweb.com).

The database transfer process is one of the most important aspects of the website transfer process. You must pay attention to the type of database software that you are using. Usually, MS SQL are specific to the Windows hosting providers and the MySQL databases are specific to the Linux based hosting providers (https://www.milesweb.com/cpanel-hosting.php).
