Title: Domain names with special characters
Post by: whackowebmaster on January 07, 2014, 12:37:31 AM
Hi Team,

I am new to your forum. A quick introduction about me. I am a webmaster who is interested in designing websites according to my client needs. I resell hosting & domain registration to my customers.

I want to know, can we register domain names with special characters ? If yes, what are the limitations & does MilesWeb allows domain names with special characters ?

Hello,

Welcome to MilesWeb Forum. It's good to know about you.

Registration of domain names with special characters is not possible. The only valid characters that a domain name can have include letters, numbers and a hyphen (-). Any other special characters like the underscore "_" or an exclamation mark "!" are Not permitted. Therefore, you won't be able to register any domain name with special characters.

Contrary to that, you can consider registering a domain name with the appropriate TLD. MilesWeb offers many TLD's like .com, .biz, .info, .net, .org, .co.uk, .in etc. Along with a good domain name, having a suitable TLD is extremely beneficial.

What is the domain name that you would like to register?

Hi Shanaya,

Thank you for your answer.

By special characters, I mean the Swedish å, the German ü, the Romanian ș and characters from the Bulgarian (Cyrillic) and Greek alphabets. Can we register domains with such alphabets ?

I might have mixed characters with alphabets  :-\

Hola,

Yes, characters and alphabets are 2 different parameters that needs to be considered when registering the domain name. Domain names that contain these special, so called non-ASCII, characters are called Internationalised Domain Names - IDNs for short. Register the name with a .eu accredited registrar.
