Title: What does it mean by domain name in redemption?
Post by: Amit_007 on February 04, 2015, 02:55:53 PM
I have got a domain name registered. Right now the status shows that the domain name is in redemption. What does this mean?

When the domain is in redemption period, it means that it is in the grace period that is allotted for renewing a domain name after it is expired. ICANN provides with this grace period so that domain names are not inadvertently deleted.

When the domain expires, it does not directly go into redemption. The registrar places the domain name into redemption around 30 days after it is expired and if has not been renewed. If the domain name is renewed after 30 days, the owner will not have to pay the redemption fees.
