I would like to suggest one point here - If possible, target your area! If you are running a local business, consider including your city name, state name or area name. This will make it easier for the local customers to find your website and remember it.
Make sure that you have a unique domain name. If your domain name is confused with any other domain name, then that might be the recipe of disaster. Avoid using the plural, hyphenated or misspelled versions of the domain names that are already in use.
.com is the first choice of every person registering a domain name. But not every person will get his perfect .com domain, as many are already registered for multiple years. I know domains registered for 10 years as well. There are many new tlds released this year. You should consider these new set of tlds as well.

Well, to give you my ideolofy to select a domain name, I will opt for a domain name that is funny and interesting. For example for an online shopping website, I will prefer a domain name like shopshop.com or shoptillyoudrop.com.... 8)
I would also like to give my suggestions for a domain name, I would go for shoponomics.com or shippyshoppy.com. Domain name also depends on the type of website you are planning to create.
