Post by: Bolt on February 02, 2017, 12:12:41 PM
Landing on a blacklist means that you have labelled as a spammer and it's tough to get yourself off the list because it affects your brand and revenue. I have started a new web hosting business and I want to know that what are the necessary steps as a business owner should be taken to avoid getting blacklisted.

Newly startup easily gets targeted by the spammers and you will get a customer who may have bad intentions. I will suggest you monitor new sign-ups and observe their activity. Especially monitor the ongoing mails and delivery reports.

If you are running a shared hosting business, then you should set a limit for sending a mail per hour. This will help you to monitor outgoing emails and solve the issue before your IP gets blacklisted.

A blacklist is a list of IP addresses, domains or emails. Anyone can create a blacklist who is receiving the emails, processing the email and much more. Here are following types of blacklists:

1) ISPs blacklists
2) Server side filters
3) Public blacklists

You need to get indexed your website to Google. You need to be very selective while advertising your business. In order to avoid getting blacklisted, try to select high authority sites.

Blacklisted does not mean that you have performed some kind of the illegal activity. It has multiple reasons includes denial of SMTP direct access for dial-up and DSL users are engaged with assigned IP addresses. Users are forced to send their mail through their provider's mail servers which are properly configured.

I would like to suggest you a few points that you should take in order to avoid getting blacklisted:

1) Do not permit unsolicited ads and other bulk e-mail to be sent from your server or hosted account.
2) Do not include any spam bots in your systems
3) Update information provided in domain registration service
4) Your email server should receive mail from delivery notification (NDR)
5) Avoid sending poorly formatted messages
6) Use secure connection (SSL/TLS)
7) Allow unauthenticated users to send emails neither locally nor remotely.

While building backlinks if you are posting any blog or forum on respected sites then you must check the content first. It should be unique and relevant to the topic. If it is not then you get punished and considered as blacklisted or spammer.
