Title: External links: use or not to use nofollow?
Post by: Karaan on March 10, 2017, 11:35:05 AM
A large part of my site consists of gathering various information that is found on various websites, for example - online CPF query services, CNPJ, Negative Certificates which leads to IRS websites among other government websites. There are also articles duly credited and with the link to access the page of the original publication.

In both cases what is advisable? noindex or nofollow?

Hello @Karaan,

This is a tricky subject. People usually respond in a ready way: use nofollow!

However, if you have confidence in the links you are referring to and depending on what these sites are, I would recommend that you use dofollow.

The main point is how much you trust these links. If you do not trust at all, use nofollow.

A priori government sites are reliable.

PS: Always prefer original content.

There is some situation where I need to reinforce by inserting "rel = dofollow".

If the site has dozens of links to other sites that are trusted, we should still use nofollow. There is no risk of Google thinking that our page is a partnership page.

Example: My site advertises public tenders on a list of open competitions. I do not want to download each file and store it on my website so I read the main information and I publish it on my website and the basic extract has a link to the website of the company that is applying the contest so that the user can read the complete post if you want. I don't think there is any problem in terms of SEO for having all nofollow links.

@Karaan From my point of view "dofollow" is the normal link. There is no need for that.

@Pravin, We can do this only if we don't trust that site and if we trust the site I think it very positive to leave everything as dofollow. One thing people forget is that, making links can help your site stay well positioned because Google understands the quality of who you link to, the context and knows that your site is a good source of information.

I'm in the favor of the nofollow links and dofollow as well. Google also looks at this and never advise that you have too much of one bit and the other need to weigh well.

Regarding positioning in the search engines and the use of nofollow, is it harmful or useful?

I wonder how can a website with optimized nofollow links gets good positioning (except the internal ones), but when we use the Plugin for optimization, specifically WordPress SEO, it suggests that at least one external link should be dofollow.

I work as an affiliate, in case products like those from affiliate program sites, do I need to assign nofollow?

@Torreto, If the products keep on changing on regular basis, it is better to use nofollow tag for those links.
