Title: FireFox latest version does not smooth the fonts. Help me to find the solution!
Post by: Roman003 on June 08, 2017, 11:45:00 AM
Updated to the latest version FireFox 53.0.3 and I am not satisfied with the quality of anti-aliasing. On another computer, worth an earlier version of the FF and there, the fonts are displayed well without chipping.

Perhaps, has someone faced with this problem and knows how to fix this.
My task - To find a cross-browser solution (preferably through CSS) to display font more smoothly in FF.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I don't think it is the problem with FireFox.

It uses anti-aliasing system, emnip. That is, if the system is configured for performance at the expense of picture quality, the FF will also be all toothy but in chrome, it won't affect at all because it uses its own smoothing mechanisms.

Can I get through FF css to display the font on my website using a smoothing regardless of the system settings?

I don't think it can be done. Tried doing this around 5 years ago and it did not work.

Joe, what do you think about the use of SVG fonts for FireFox? Should I go with it or I should not?

I don't think there would be any problem, except that the downloadable fonts are a bit svg heavy. You will need to test and see how it will render them.
