Hi,
I am using a Windows Operating System and now am about to host a website.
During my web hosting, do I need to learn about both cPanel and Plesk?
The main difference between the Plesk and cPanel web hosting control panels is that Plesk is available on both Windows Server and Linux distributions, whereas cPanel is only available on Linux operating systems. Plesk is widely considered to have a cleaner graphical user interface (GUI) and is a bit easier to use. The cPanel interface, however, does not group the features and tools as helpfully and is often seen as being more cluttered.
cPanel and Plesk both provide users with the same primary features and account management system. For windows, the Plesk control panel is used. Plesk is used widely because it has a clear graphical user interface (GUI) and it easier to use. You can manage emails, database, and run FTP using both.
cPanel and Plesk are two types of control panels that help you to manage your hosting account.
OS:
cPanel is a Linux-based control panel that offers automation tools and user interface in order to help users easily manage their websites and hosting accounts.
Plesk is a Windows-based control panel that offers intuitive and multi-level hosting user interface that offer the users access based on their role, giving complete control to users on their website.
Extensions:
cPanel allows you to add extra apps as required with the one-click installers like Softaculous. But note that you get only few add-ons free.
Plesk offers pre-loaded with useful apps and extensions, therefore, the user does not need to add them, like WordPress Toolkit, Joomla Toolkit etc.
Security:
In terms of security cPanel offers automatic installation of SSL certificate, IP address denials and password protected directories.
But it takes lot of time to implement a security fix.
Plesk offers both free and commercial security features such as Fail2ban intrusion prevention, inbound and outbound email antispam and active directory integration.
It releases patches to PHP or apps like WordPress usually within 24 hours which is very fast as compared to cPanel.
These two are the main elements in web hosting service: cPanel and Plesk that allow users to manage their website.
Plesk is the extension based architecture that permits fast delivery of new features. For example, new advisor, extension catalogue, WordPress toolkit, etc.
It is flexible and allows running both the software: Linux and Plesk.
Where as cPanel is developed as a dedicated or virtual server. It leverages a three-tier structure that involves capabilities for administrators, reseller, management of the website and server.
Linux only allows the control panel. It supports CentOS, Cloud Linux, etc.
1) According to cPanel, in every six seconds, there is the use of cPanel to create a new domain and to host account in every 14.5 seconds.
1) Plesk considers itself as a tool that is designed to help you "build, secure, and run your apps and websites".
2) cPanel is a Linux based tool.
2) Plesk runs on Windows server.
3) cPanel provides you WHM(Web Host Manager) to manage more than one website.
3) Plesk has WebOps server control panel, that manages multiple servers using one control panel. It gives you a strong website and server security.
cPanel is a Linux-based control panel and Plesk is a Windows-based control panel.
