Title: Self-referencing links are good or bad for SEO?

Currently, I'm learning a new concept about backlinks, just read about self-referencing links but I didn't understand properly. Can anyone explain it briefly?

Self-referential links are undesirable, the link juice for this simply vanish rather than return to Google.

Self-referencing canonical links are not mandatory for all URLs from an SEO point of view but, it is good practice.

I agree with you Vikrant, self-referencing links are useless and do not add any value to the website SEO.
