Post by: Man-U on March 29, 2014, 03:10:55 AM

Welcome to the forum mate.  :)
Most of the website use sub-domain to run the wiki site. If your main domain is mydomain.com, you can use wiki.mydomain.com for running the wiki site. Check our Wiki hosting plans (http://milesweb.com/mediawiki-hosting.php).

I assume that it is effectively a separate domain? so it will depend on the availability of that domain too? I would prefer not to disrupt our current site.

The wiki domain (sub-domain) would be treated as an individual website and it will not affect your main website. Do you want to host your main website and the wiki site with us?

You can start a new site with MediaWiki on a sub domain OR a newly registered domain. Doing this, your existing website won't be affected in any way. You should restrict editing of pages in your MediaWiki Site so that registered users can edit & view your Wiki content.

With MediaWiki hosting plans you get full access to manage the website. You can manage it with

1. MediaWiki Admin Panel
2. Website's Control Panel

Feel free to reply this thread if you have any more questions.

To run the Wiki site, I will use wiki.domain.com. Can you give me a sense for the differences between your hosting plans? For comparison what kind of site requires 10 or 30GB space etc.?

The Wiki hosting plans are segregated on the basis of disk space and bandwidth. Except the basic plan, we offer free domain name with the other Wiki hosting plans. The wiki sites with hundred to couple of hundred pages or thousand pages would need the higher plans. Free Wiki installation and transfer is included. There is no additional charge for this.
