Virtual Domain is same as the normal Domain but it doesn't require any additional IP addresses to be added to the GMS server. A virtual domain is a base URL ie., it piggybacks a normal domain and thus uses the IP address of normal domain only.
Uses of Virtual Domain are :
1. In virtual domain you don't need to install the software physically on the server it is done using the local repositories and maintaining the domain locally.
2. By using a virtual domain you can use storage space efficiently and even the data is made more secure before publishing it on time.

Some Uses of Virtual domain are:
1) Virtual domain belongs to the clients on which they can run their applications without any need to install the server or hardware.
2) Through the virtual domain, you can represent your personal internet web address domain name.
3) The virtual domain provides you with more security by using your personalized domain and can access the sources that are on the internet.

A virtual domain is the base URL of the domain name. Few examples of a virtual domain are yourdomainname.com. Virtual domain names are not just limited to .com, .net, .org, or .edu domain extensions. In addition, International domain names are also virtual domain names, such as london.co.uk, deutchland.de, registry.in etc. Virtual hosting is a method for hosting multiple domain names (with separate handling of each name) on a single server (or pool of servers). This allows one server to share its resources, such as memory and processor cycles, without requiring all services provided to use the same hostname.

There are two basic types of Virtual domains for a mail server:
1) The virtual domain that is based on the real IP, where you can allocate an IP address to each virtual domain. The server uses this information to find out which domain it should pretend to be.
2) The fake ones – Where you use only one IP address and then the user needs to log in as 'user@domain.name' while fetching their email through POP so that it becomes easy for the server to understand which domain they belong to.
