Domain authority is necessary for SEO, Isn’t it?

I have read somewhere few months back that domain authority is not necessary. Google many times changed their algorithm but MOZ remained in a stone age.
This result MOZ metrics are completely meaningless in terms of SEO. There are thousands of domains with high DA that are penalized by Google.

I have used MOZ many times for SEO purpose and wasn't aware that it is not consider best for SEO.

I think it is important!! Domain Authority is calculation of domain name and its considered one of the search engine ranking factors.

DA depends on three factors:-

•   AGE
•   POPULARITY
•   SIZE

Google may penalize site having high domain authority .If its engaged in black hats SEO activities.

I came to know that networks of websites were getting penalized because of spam link building.Google algorithms are constantly updated ,penguin update penalized lot of sites for low quality content and links.
