Hello everyone,
I am planning to purchase a VPS hosting, but I can see that there is a wide difference in price ranges for managed and unmanaged VPS hosting? I found unmanaged are affordable and easy to use. But still I would like to know the difference between both, and which one shall I choose?

The server security and technical support are provided in managed VPS hosting. Whereas, they are absent in unmanaged VPS hosting.

In general, unmanaged VPS hosting is less expensive compared to managed VPS hosting. The reason behind this is that the hosting provider doesn't provide you the other support except to host a website. That means in unmanaged VPS hosting, you have to do the software updating, management, software configuration, etc. manually that too by your own. Whereas, in managed VPS hosting, your provider takes care of such things for you.

In unmanaged VPS, managing all the technical tasks by yourself becomes very difficult as you won't have deep knowledge about web hosting. This might waste your time and your business graph might turn downwards.

In managed hosting, since your web host takes the complete responsibility of server management, technical functionalities as well as security, you get the time to focus on your business growth.

In unmanaged VPS hosting, you won't be allowed to install applications neither you will get any support for the software. Even if you try to install any security patches, you will encounter the error messages, and then you will be responsible for everything that goes wrong with your OS. Many unmanaged hosting providers don't even provide you the control panel access, it will be up to you how to maintain your website.

Whereas in managed VPS hosting, you are allowed to install applications and also get the security from your provider.  Also, you get the control panel access to manage your website database.

  • Un-Managed Hosting:
In web hosting, there are two main categories, unmanaged and managed web hosting. Unmanaged hosting is less expensive than managed hosting because in unmanaged hosting you have to manage your server. No regular support, technical or other, is provided by the hosting provider. The hosting service provider does not provide any support to install any software to the client. You'll get only a few things like reboot servers, do the network maintenance or replace server damaged components but nothing more than that. In that, you have to be full programming as well as web server management knowledge to manage your own server.

  • Managed Hosting:
On the other side in the managed server, you get a lot of required things. In that, you get the support and management of your entire server. Your hosting provider takes care of every problem of hosting account and provides 24/7 technical support in case of an emergency. So, you can remain concentrate on your business activities. Managed server hosting comes with all expertise, you don't have to worry about any server management.
