Hello Guys,

If you are getting Content Encoding Error after enabling the Gzip Page Compression on your Joomla website. But after refresh the page it is working and wish to enable this without this error then you are on correct page.

After investigating on it, I found that if  on the server has already gzip compression turned on then Joomla tries to gzip again it can cause some weird encoding issues. You need to check it on server if is it already on or not.

Here are the steps:

1. Disable the gzip compress from joomla admin panel.

2. login to your server via ssh. OR check via online utility http://www.gidnetwork.com/tools/gzip-test.php

[If online utility shows Compression type? -gzip. Means it is already enable on server no need to enable it from joomla ]

3. Run curl command as below.

Quote
#curl -I -H 'Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate' http://domain.com/index.php

It will show you output like as below.

Quote
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Wed, 01 Oct 2014 11:15:44 GMT
Connection: Keep-Alive
Transfer-Encoding: gzip
Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8

4. You can see " Transfer-Encoding: gzip ". Means it is already enable on server no need to enable it from joomla.

That's all you have done.

Enjoy!!!
