Getting traffic to online store

I and my friend, we have recently launched an online store. I need suggestions on getting traffic to the online store. We have only thought about starting an affiliate program....what else can be done?

Initially you can drive traffic through social media websites. Join a lot of groups where you will find people interested in the products you are selling. All of them can be your potential customers. Feature offers, discounts, product pictures etc. The images that you submit should be impressive so that people click on the link and get to your website.

If you have a higher budget, you can consider getting banner ads on relevant websites from where you think you can get good amount of traffic to your online store. Feature important highlights, offers and discounts on the banner ads.

You must reach out to the bloggers and publish press releases about your new online store. Feature information about the products you are selling online and how your online store is different as compared to the other online stores. This will help in catching the attention of people.
