Hello People,

Hope you all are doing well! I am new to web hosting and had a query regarding the same. I am planning to purchase a hosting plan but want to know every term of it in detail. Recently I came across the term "root access", can anyone please guide me with my query?  :)

Administrator can edit and access any files on server to perform any tasks he need to. Similarly Linux has the admin account known as "Root". The root user can perform much more tasks when compared to any standard users. Tasks that only root user can perform and not standard users are:

-   Install server wide application
-   Configure server wide application such as Apache or MySQL
-   Edit any file on the server

Root access can be provided on VPS and Dedicated hosting accounts. Root access is given by default by the hosting provider to you as the VPS or dedicated server user. Root users have all the rights to edit files on the server. All you need to do is signup for VPS or dedicated hosting plans.

May I know what type of website you want to host?
