I would like to know what exactly is a dedicated IP and who needs it and why? It will be great if anyone can provide me information on this.

A dedicated IP address is an exclusive IP address that is used by a single user or a single account for sending emails. The reputation of that IP is determined only by the mails sent by that user. Only that user's email address is sent over the IP.

The share hosting users might not be in a need of a dedicated IP address. However websites owners hosting their website on the higher plans might need a dedicated IP.

Here's what a dedicated IP enables you to do:

* View your website with its IP address.

*  Access your accounts through FTP or the web in case the domain name is inaccessible, such as during domain name propagation periods.

* Set up an SSL encryption on your website.

You also need a dedicated IP if you have a high traffic website. Irrespective of whether you are operating an eCommerce website or not, if your website has a huge amount of incoming traffic daily, then it is a good idea to get a dedicated IP. This will help maintaining your website speed along with accommodating the visitors. It will also reduce the possibilities of your website crashing because of huge volume of traffic.

Opting for a dedicated IP is beneficial to be businesses because it safeguards the sender's reputation. If you have hosted your website on a shared hosting platform, then in some situation, a user sharing the same IP as yours gets blacklisted or banned for spamming and this might affect your email service and your online reputation as well. However, if you use a dedicated IP for sending emails, your service is isolated and it is not affected by others.
