Hi everyone,
I have read that CageFS is important while looking for a web hosting company.
What exactly is CageFS? Is it really important?

CageFS is a virtual system, that encloses each customers information separately. It prevents users from seeing each others' sensitive information. Thus, CageFS can prevent malware and cyber attacks.
CageFS is not provided by every web hosting company but, they compensate it by providing you SSH access or malware scan and removal feature. Both ways, your account remains safe.

It is a virtualized file system and a set of tools to contain each user in its own 'cage'. The individual customer will have its own fully functional CageFS, with all the system files, tools, etc.

The advantages of CageFS are as follows:

  • Only safe binaries are available to the user

  • The user will not see any other users and would have no way to detect the presence of other users & their user names on the server

  • The user will not be able to see server configuration files, such as Apache config files.

  • Users will have a limited view of /proc file system, and will not be able to see other' users processes

CageFs is a virtualized system that encapsulates the information of each customer and protects it from viewing by others. It prevents the information leakage attacks. It remains transparent to your customers. With CageFs  :
1) Access to safe file
2) Users won't be able to see other user's information so there won't be any way to detect the presence of the users on the server.
3) Users won't be able to see the server configuration like Apache configuration files.
