Most search engines have a 2,000–2,500 character limit on URLs. Although extended URL limitations are typical for many web services (especially social media sites), they are still troublesome.
The length of a URL has a significant impact on how user-friendly and readable it is. In the context of search engine optimization, a long URL may offer certain SEO benefits, such as cramming it with keywords, which will make them stand out and maybe increase its relevancy.

There is no such character limit for URL in SEO because it is not directly related to the ranking of your website, however, we should always try to keep URLs simple and short. Short URLs are easy to monitor, easy to understand for visitors and increase user experience. The main purpose of URL is that it should reflect what the page is about, so try to use limited characters that represent the main idea of the page.
Concluding  URL character limit does not affect SERP rankings, so use a URL structure that is suitable for your website.

URL should be short and meaningful to avoid unnecessary signs or numbers. Google doesn't specify the ideal URL length for SEO purposes, but it should be between 50 to 70 characters long. When designing a URL, we must also keep a few fundamental principles in mind.

1. Adequate

2. Short

3. not be punctuated with ;, &, +, or *

4. Lack of dynamic parameters (&)

5. Must accurately represent the goods and services.

Yes, I agree with Samantha.
URL should be short and sweet (up to 50-70 characters)
As it is suggested that the URL should not be wordy. But if you want to URL to be relevant then you can use a little long URL because the main purpose of an URL is to represent the page's content. Users and search engines should be able to understand page ideas from the URL itself or it should summarise what a page is about to crawlers and website visitors.
