How to Connect n8n to WhatsApp

 3 min

To integrate n8n with WhatsApp, you have to create an application on the Meta for Developers platform that will allow you to access the WhatsApp Business Cloud API. On this platform, you will have to create a business page and an app to receive an app ID, secret, business account ID, and an access token. In n8n, you make a new workflow with a trigger node to receive messages and a WhatsApp send node to send messages. You set the trigger and send nodes with the credentials received in the Meta platform to create communication and automate interactions with WhatsApp.

Connection to WhatsApp using n8n:

1. Create an App on Meta as a Developer

  • Visit the Meta to Developers platform and establish a business page and an app.
  • WhatsApp Business Cloud will be connected through this application.

2. Acquire WhatsApp Credentials

  • In the Developers section of the app settings at Meta, copy your App ID and App Secret.
  • Create an Access Token and a Business Account ID of the WhatsApp API integration.
  • Register and confirm a test phone number for WhatsApp Business Platform.

3. Create Credentials in n8n

  • Add new WhatsApp integration credits in your n8n workflow.
  • These credentials require the App ID and the App Secret.

4. Configure the WhatsApp Trigger in n8n

  • Add a new node to your n8n workflow and select a WhatsApp trigger, such as “WhatsApp trigger node”.
  • Set the trigger to activate when a message is received.

5. WhatsApp Trigger is configured in n8n

  • Create a new node in your n8n workflow and choose a WhatsApp trigger, i.e. a WhatsApp trigger node.
  • Configure the trigger to go off on when a message is received.

6. Set up the WhatsApp Send Node at n8n

  • Add a workflow WhatsApp send node.
  • Enter the Access Token and Business Account Id in this node.
  • You can specify the phone number of the recipient to send messages.

7. Build Your Workflow

  • WhatsApp is compatible with the trigger.
  • Incorporate additional nodes, i.e., AI agents, to process messages.
  • Use the send node to forward the response that was created by the AI to the user through WhatsApp.

8. Activate Your Workflow

  • Check the workflow to make sure that it sends and receives messages.
  • After testing, start the workflow to allow it to run continuously.
Conclusion

You can automate your messaging workflows by this integration. It will be helpful for your customer support notifications, and streamline the digital communication.
